Digital mock up (website)

This is the digital mock up I created for the artist Taylor Swift. She didn't have the same genre as our artist in our music video we produced, but her style and attitude was similar and what I was aiming for. I wanted to make my original website for my artist, something similar to this.

Overview of the costume ideas (repost)

Powered by emaze

As a group we have decided to have a maximum of 3 clothing changes. In an Ellie Goulding music video, there is hardly any change of clothing so we thought we would differ from this and do a maximum of 3. We have chosen this particular number after we have watched several music videos and counted the amount of times they have changed their outfits.

Our choice of costume is casual and simple - it reflects the life of an ordinary person. Also, after watching a few of Ellie Goulding's music videos we have realised her location and the lyrics of her music video are the main focus point.

Post 55: Digital Mock up for a website

http://simonajaruseviciute.weebly.com/music.html
This is the home page of my mock up website for an artist similar to Ellie Goulding and  found this helped me understand how to layer up a website and get all the information that a fan would desire and need. This was a rough idea of this website and there would be much more to do to finish off the website and so that it looks like a professional Webpage fit for the genre and the artist as well as the target audience.
This is the media page of the artist and this allowed the fans and viewers of the website to access different media based links to the artist, from songs to interviews. This was an idea that I found useful and one that I will use in my own work. I will include Outtakes of the artist and other interviews of her releasing her song etc.

Where my ideas have come from

Short list of fonts, colours, layout and design ideas, including flatplans

This is a digipak that we had done for the pitch while sorting out our character, her style and etc. I really like the font that was chosen as it stands out and it is clear, I tried looking for the font again on Adobe Photoshop CC and the most similar was 'Baskerville Old Face Regular':

However, after fully analysing this font, I realised there was a difference in the letter 'R' in comparison to the digipak font. Therefore, I decided to search for more fonts which were more similar so I came across 'Bell MT Regular':
As you can see this font is more italic in comparison to the previous one, but the letter 'R' matches the digipak 'R' which appeals to me a lot. However, I did not like the rest of the letters being as italic as the letter 'R' because in my opinion it looked to much so I decided to mix both the fonts together:

I think this looks more like the digipak from the pitch, therefore have decided to use the artists name in these two particular fonts. It stands out, it's simple and appealing.

Blog Health check 3

This third blog health check clearly shows that I have a lot more to improve to ensure myself a solid A; it is clear that I have some posts missing from my blog which therefore put down the grade and now I am currently on a B grade. I have 5 key things to work on and the main idea is to not rely on just writing a lot on each post but using a range of different ICT to display the work. This will not only make the blog look more appealing but also it will make it much more interesting to read.

Post 48: Website Analysis for Ellie Goulding

The fonts for the website is all in upper case lettering in:-
  • Iowan Old Style
This style of font allows the text look effective and both easy to read and understand; as having a bold, eligible font that both looks stylish and not too much for the webpage.
Also the the font should and might link to the album and in this case Ellie Goulding’s font does link to her new album cover.

The effective part of the webpage is that it doesn’t have a large amount of text; it hardly has any, except for the list of ‘Tour dates’ and except for that, there is mostly just images and icons for the fans to get through the website easily and quickly.

The website is very professional and not as formal as people would expect as the artist is very known for being very down to earth. The different videos of the artist allowing the fans feel as though they are going on her journey with her.

Blogging health check 3

Blogging Health Check 3

70 posts. Zahed - very much improved. I'm really pleased with the way you have responded to feedback and begun to blog regularly and purposefully.  You have a very detailed account of the filming and editing process which is great, and you have made a good start blogging about the ancillary products as well.  I like the presentation of you digipak analyses. Just don't let things slide again after the holidays - you should now be aiming for  the top band.
Targets:
1) ensure you have the full 3 analyses of real products - blogs 48 and 49 - to ensure full marks for this
2) repost the artist website blog from 24 Nov as part of your planning for the ancillary
3) make sure the costume blog - post 54- is detailed and that you make the most of preparing colour-schemes etc.
good - keep at it!

Overall, I think my progress on my blogs and the effort put into the blogs have improved drastically compared to how it was earlier on in the A2 year, as I've concentrated more and done the blogs as soon as possible which helped as I didn't have to rush it like before. Hopefully, I can push my grade eve higher from a B to an A.

Task 48: Ancillary text 1

Task 47:The Importance and function of digipaks to the music industry

A digipak is the optical disk packaging used by musicians for albums, which can consist of the tracklist, disk, record label logos and a paper booklet with information about the music and artist in some cases. There are several important factors to why the Music Industry use digipaks:

The use of a digipak allows the public to see the self-image of the artist and provide them with a visual insight and clue of what they can expect to be involved in the album. Also the imagery on the album may be used for synergy throughout the music video, interlinking the two together.
Moreover, the digipak is also important due to the fact that it is a form of marketing as the more appealing the digipak is, the more likely the product is going to sell in stores generating profit for the artist and its label.

Here are a few examples:

Post 47: Importance of Digipaks

Digipaks are one of the way a music artist can advertise not only themselves and their music but also their image as an artist, depending on their genre. We discussed the importance of keeping the colour scheme and the synergy seen in the music video or other songs from the artists album. By keeping the colour scheme consistent, allows the fans to identify with the artist. There was many different digipaks we looked at, many had 2 panels in the digipak but there was also some that were special edition digipaks that had more than 2 panels and additional items included in the pack; like photographs and an extra backstage video from the artist tour or backstage of a music video. This was evident in Rihanna's album 'Loud'. Here the colour scheme is evidently kept throughout the digipak and the main front cover is of the artist which allows the fans to identify with the artist.

The importance and functions of digipaks to the music industry

A digipak is a CD packaging that gives an insight of the artists recent album. It consists of information such as the image of the artists album, the album name, tour dates, release dates, record label logos and the artists website.

Digipaks are important to the music industry due to their important functions:
  • promote the artist.
  • form of marketing for the artist.
  • artists can sell digipak at high prices, increasing profit.
  • builds a fan base through the personal touches in the digipak.
  • it gives a clue of the content and theme of the album by the design.
To summarise the music industry benefits from digipaks, because they are more expensive to produce leading the music industry to sell digipaks at a higher price, increasing earnings. Not only are digipaks a piece of art for the fans to admire but can be a source of revenue.

4th December Deadline (Simona)

These are the beginning and last shot of the music video; here the artist will end the video and start the video with her eyes opening and closing.
This was the last element of our editing and the last and final process before we completely finished our music video.
Overall I am happy about our final product and I think it shows both emotion and establishes the emotion of the song as well as making it an enjoyable video for target audiences.

Editing

In today's lesson, we are inputting more of the new footage for our music video, such as shorts clips and another base track as we were advised to do so. The last base track was not uploaded today due to it being on another memory card, which we don't have a hold of today, therefore it will be uploaded tomorrow.

We added slow motion transitions to our video to go with the flow of the song, intertwining with the theme providing a stronger bond between the two. Also, there was another slow motion we added which was the footage of her moving the hair away from her face.

Overview of what needs to be finished

The aspects of the music video which we need to get finished by the end of this week is to apply colour balance and maybe some filters to our clips due to some of the clips having lower lighting than the others and to provide an on going flow during the music video. This is important as it will make each clips background similar to one another and it will look more realistic rather than odd.

Moreover, we added more slow motion sections in the video to provide smooth transitions between the beat drops within the song when no singing is taking place to help emphasise the beat of the song. Also, during one of the shots whilst she is singing we have decided to do that in slow motion after Mary recommended it as it would look more appealing as she moves the hair away from her face.

Planning Process of Evaluation

Question 1:
In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
I will explore the overall research of the stereotypical conventions in music videos and how they explore women and other aspects of a music video.
I will explain the type of approach my artist explores and how she either challenges it or develops the conventions.
Then explore the media product we produced and it is similar or different to the artists work and how effective it is and how we challenged the conventions of music videos overall; especially female artists.
As well as talking about the music video; I will link our Ancillary and Digipak, to the conventions of music video digipaks and how effective our products are and if they both link to the music video we have produced. To display this I will use images from the digipak to show the connection.

To present my work I will use screen-casting Camtasia, here I will go over the sections of our music video where we have challenges the overall convections of music videos overall. I will also use, Links, to clearly establish the videos that have influenced our music video; these will reference back to Ellie Goulding’s videos.

Question 2:
How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?
I will talk about the link between the main product and the ancillary texts and what links them together; for example the synergy of the necklace and dream-catcher. How effective these aspects were and what could be done differently next time. Also explore the influence I had for these objects and what videos or artists/themes provided that.
What has worked and what hasn’t quite worked? Does it link to the target audience and what they like seeing in music video products?

The way I will present this question is maybe through a collage/comparison of my work with the artist I have chosen. I will also use a video clip and some screenshots of my work and how it is different from the stereotypical digipaks in the music industry today.

Question 3:
How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?
I will explore the different ways I used the camera and how the new development of state of the art cameras helped with the filming of the video. And how using the premier Pro has developed my media skills.
Also how presenting my work on blogger and how the production of the music video using the technology.

The methods I will use to present this question is through a voiceover of my ancillary or video of me describing my piece. Also I will try and use screen casting to show a technique I used in Premiere Pro and Photoshop. I will have a lot of visual aspects for this question as using a range of different technologies’ was a very important process of this media project.

Question 4:
What have you learned from the audience feedback?
I will begin exploring the feedback from the rough-cut and then how I use that to change the overall music video. Also I will link the feedback throughout the process and how I have changed my production process.
I will also present the feedback from the target audience; their review of the final edit of the music video, and this will allow me to reflect the importance of the audience and how they have helped me to edit my music video better. As well as that, I will get feedback from the audience of what they think of the final edit of the ancillary products.

There will be a variety of different methods I will present my work; such as, have links to Vimeo exploring the audience ratings and record the reactions of the target audience . I will also use vox pops to record all the reactions.

post 42: Reflecting on any filming since Monday

Since we uploaded the rough cut on Friday, we received several amounts of feedback and reflecting on it we filmed on Monday 30th November. The shots we used consisted of extreme close ups, low angled shots and wide shots to show the emotion of the artist and the synergy within the video. This was due to the audience during the rough cut being unaware of the synergy within the video and couldn't really relate towards it; moreover, the feedback we received about the close up of the artist was that she wasn't active enough within the video, so re-filming had to take place in order to get more movement shots from the artist.

We chose to film near St. Paul's Cathedral today due to the reason being that it's near the city and links to the theme of the song that we wanted to go for. The reason behind filming today was that we were told to film another base track with a different costume for the artist as the other base tracks were used too much in the short span.  The aspects of filming which went well was that we have a few more close up shots as recommended from Mary like extreme close up shots of the eye, close up shots of the arm etc. Also, we made sure to catch the dreamcatcher on the artists backpack in a mid shot, this was necessary as we didn't have many synergy links.

Editing in today's lesson

After receiving our feedback from our Rough Cut, we have decided to improve our rough cut according to the feedback. Mary and Class had mentioned that shot near Canary Wharf where she tries removing her hair from her face is too distracting and doesn't look appealing. So we decided to either remove this shot and add the shots were it looks less distracting and more natural. Also, another feedback acknowledged was filming another location which we did today in St. Paul's Cathedral.

We have a close up shot of the artists hands touching the pillar, and there's another close up shot of her arms while she is walking up the stairs. These shots are in slow motion as we thought it looked more appealing and helped focus on the movement of the fingers more. Also, we have an extreme close up shot of her eyes which we have also decided to do in slow motion. This is because it makes it more effective and clearer.

There was a massive jump shot in between a few shots which looked odd and quite dodgy so we have been trying to fix that as well.

Rebecca pointed out that some of our location shots were darker than the others and it looked out of place. So she suggested we use similar background colour ones in one part and the others in another. Also, today she taught us how to change the saturation of the clips by going on effects and pressing colour effects. We have tried this on the clip of the close up shot of the artist in the beach and tried matching it with the other shots and we believe it was a massive and better change.

Teachers Feedback on Rough-Cut

For the feedback on our Rough cut, there was one key thing that needed to be improved and that was the structure of the video. Currently is seems very messy and there isn't a certain object that would tell you that this is the beginning of the chorus etc.

  • Therefore one thing to improve would be the structure of the video and make sure it looks visually effective but also is clear.
  • One thing they liked was the shots at the beach, they felt it was very artistic and look well with the city shots.

How is blogging going so far?

How has my blogging developed throughout the process?

Throughout the process of the project, I have learnt how to layout my work in a way in which not only I could understand it; but also so that it is looks presentable and appealing to someone other than myself. As well as that, I have learnt how to advertise the artist in everyway possible, to ensure the project is completed to its full potential.

At the beginning of the blogging, I was just posting blogs without thinking about what different apps I could use to present the work, therefore the blogs looked less appealing. However as the process continued I gained that understanding and began to introduce ICT that made my work look artistic as well as good quality.
