The importance and functions of digipaks to the music industry

A digipak is a CD packaging that gives an insight of the artists recent album. It consists of information such as the image of the artists album, the album name, tour dates, release dates, record label logos and the artists website.

Digipaks are important to the music industry due to their important functions:
  • promote the artist.
  • form of marketing for the artist.
  • artists can sell digipak at high prices, increasing profit.
  • builds a fan base through the personal touches in the digipak.
  • it gives a clue of the content and theme of the album by the design.
To summarise the music industry benefits from digipaks, because they are more expensive to produce leading the music industry to sell digipaks at a higher price, increasing earnings. Not only are digipaks a piece of art for the fans to admire but can be a source of revenue.
