Post 6: Laura Mulvey: The Male Gaze

Laura Mulvey is a feminist film theorist; she worked in the British Film Industry for many years, this was when she realised a certain shocking discovery about the display of womens bodys.

These are some music video's where I have seen Mulveys theorys clearly displayed in:-

These are some of the sections which I think are relevent to my understanding:
- 0:37-0:39 sec
- 0:47- 0-56 sec

This artist again makes herself look like a prize of somesort for males to drull over; she uses her body language and the different locations, such as a shower and sofa, to make herself look as seductive as possible; therefore putting the camera in the point of view of the male. This music video makes it look acceptable for women to make themselves look available to males and it is truly becoming a problem in music videos in the 21st Century.

For this video the main sections are:
- 0:38-0:40 sec
- 1min -1:02
- 1:16- 1:18
In this music video, the female character looks directly at the camera; which would look as though she is looking at the male target audience. As well as that, in the video she is seen as a prize which makes me wonder just how she will be displayed as by the viewing public. This therefore makes my understanding of Mulveys theorys very clear and how common it is for females to be presented in such way in the 21st Century.
